Natural Gas Appliances:
Energy
Efficiency, Savings and Value
You have a choice. Natural gas appliances
provide you with a broad range of lifestyles choices, provide ways to save
and add value to your home.
Natural gas appliances do cost less to
operate about half the cost of operating an electric appliance as a
general rule. But, you can also have Hot water for less, dry clothes with that smell of fresh
air, a cozy warm house, and the romance of a fireplace. You
really can't go wrong with any of the above choices! So go ahead,
it's your choice.
Please note : It's
recommended that all natural gas equipment be installed by a
qualified licensed professional. It is extremely important that you
adhere to the building code in your area and follow the
manufacturer's instructions for installation and
operation.
Gas Water Heaters
Your water heater is the second largest
contributor to your fuel bill. Your water heater is the second largest
energy user in your home, followed by the energy required for air
conditioning and heating. Water heating normally consumes 15 to 25
percent
of all home energy. Replacing your electric water heater with a
natural gas model means lower energy bills, reliability and more hot
water.
In fact, a gas water heater is so much
cheaper than electricity: waiting to buy one could be a big mistake.
Converting to natural gas water heating is easy. You won't pay a lot
more to install one, and you can recover the extra cost of
conversion quickly because natural gas models cost less to operate.
And, if you do so while your new home is under construction, it is even more cost effective.
You will get more hot water. The average
family of four uses up to 24,000 gallons of water each year. Gas
water heaters are up to the challenge of being ready when you need
them. Natural gas water heaters recover up to 40 percent faster than
electric models. More hot water, faster! You can enjoy your shower
and leave plenty of hot water for your loved ones. Or is it the
other way around?
Peace of mind, plenty of hot water, lower
energy bills.... You get all that with a high-efficiency natural gas
water heater. Guaranteed.

Gas Clothes Drying
Economy plus for the energy conscious, gas clothes drying
is the biggest energy bargain in your home.
Once upon a time, our clothes dried on a
clothesline. They came down from the line smelling fresh, but
needing to be ironed. Natural gas dryers are the closest thing to a
clothesline available today. They will dry your clothes quickly and
for less money than electric models. They also produce less static
cling. When a gas dryer turns off, the heat dissipates quickly,
reducing the amount of wrinkling.
Today's gas dryers offer touch controls,
digital displays and microcomputer-base temperature settings for
sensitive fabrics. Some models signal when the clothes are dry and
continue to tumble without heat, allowing you more time to fold the
load.
Today's gas dryers use less energy than
older models. No pilot lights are required because the dryers light
automatically. You can save money, time, and more . . .as you dry
every load of clothes, with your new energy-efficient natural gas
dryer.

Gas Furnace
A high-efficiency natural gas furnace
provides comfort and savings - no matter how cold the outside
temperature. For year-round comfort, team your gas furnace with
conventional air conditioning. Get the most for your money and stay
warm.
Modern natural gas furnaces not only use
a superior fuel, they are technologically advanced to wrangle as
much heat for your dollar as possible. Most new homes are built with
a forced-air system using natural gas, oil, or electricity to
generate heat. In fact, most gas-fired equipment is part of a
central heat and air condition system.
You can be confident of receiving a
high-efficiency furnace when purchasing a new heating system because
federal regulations dictate that manufacturers can only offer
equipment with AFUE ratings of 78 percent or higher for furnaces.
Top-of-the-line furnaces can turn up to 97 cents of your energy
dollar into usable heat.
To put it in even simpler terms, if you
buy a dollar's worth of gas and use it in a 65 percent AFUE furnace,
only 65 cents worth of usable heat is going into your home. Because
home heating takes up so much of your utility bill, it makes sense
to have the most efficient equipment you can. So you need to study
the cost of each fuel choice in your area to arrive at the best
possible energy use plan for your home.
For example, have you heard about the
virtues of the electric heat pump? Did you know that with an electric heat pump, you need
to have a conventional heating system that kicks in when the
temperature gets below 40 degrees? That can be expensive, if that
backup heating system is electric. Plus, electric heat pumps can't
compete with the comfort or speed of natural gas heating.
Speed is important. Turning down your
thermostat at night can save up to 15 percent each year on your
heating bill. A heat pump takes so long to warm your
home, that many systems rely on the backup heating system to kick
in. Or, you simply wait.
Gas heat is your home's foundation for
comfort. The quality of your home's heating system equates to the
quality of comfort you provide for yourself and your
family.

Gas Heating and Water Heating Combo
Systems
It you're thinking about replacing both
the furnace and water heater, consider purchasing one of the new
"combination heating systems." Using only one natural gas burner to
do two jobs saves money and energy. Combos can provide nearly
unlimited amounts of hot water because a smaller tank of hot water
is heated with the high-energy output of the furnace. You get hot
water and hot air. Combos tie into the forced-air system of the home's
central heat and air system.

Gas Space Heaters, Wall Heaters
& Garage Heaters
Natural gas space heaters are relatively
inexpensive to install and provide heat only when and where it's
needed. Natural gas space heaters are ideal for areas such as
additions, workshops, garages, guesthouses and summer rooms.
Many wall space heaters can be installed
flush against a wall. There are models that have electronic ignition
and thermostatic controls that maintain the temperature
automatically.
A similar product to the space heater are
infrared garage heaters. You can work in your garage year-round
because natural gas infrared garage heaters warm the surrounding
area with radiant heat. They can be mounted on a wall and some
models require no electricity. Garage heaters are fuel-efficient and
operate for just pennies per day.
